Jazz concert at Colgate

HAMILTON — Glenn Cashman’s Nonet East will play a free, public jazz concert in the Colgate Memorial Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The concert will feature music written by Cashman for his highly acclaimed Los Angeles based Southland Nonet.

The group of CNY jazz musicians performing will include saxophonists Joe Carello, Bill Boyd, trumpeters Pat Carney, Jeff Stockham, trombonist Joe Colombo, pianist Rick Montalbano, bassist Joey Arcuri, and drummer Jimmy Johns.

Cashman is chair and associate professor of music at Colgate and has recorded with the legendary Kenny Barron Trio, with jazz/studio piano giant Tom Ranier, and is tenor saxophonist with Luther Hughes and the Cannonball-Coltrane Project. Their fourth CD "Things Are Getting Better" reached numer 2 on the national jazz airplay charts.

Cashman is founding artistic director of the Muckenthaler Jazz Festival in Fullerton, Calif., which will present its seventh season this summer.
