Bluegrass group plans festival, fund-raiser

BOONVILLE — The Mohawk Valley Bluegrass Association will hold its eighth MVBGA Festival will July 6-8 on the Boonville Fairgrounds, Route 294.

"We are pleased that the Boonville Fair is again making the grounds available for our festival" said President Dick Satterly. "The Fairgrounds provides many amenities for festival attendees and weekend campers - this is a great facility for a Bluegrass Festival. We held our festival there in 2010 and received a great response from the folks who attended."

This festival is made possible with Funds from New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant Program, a state agency and the Cultural Resources Council a regional arts council.

"Thanks to the grant we received from the New York State Council for the Arts, we will have the funding in place to support a full weekend festival with a very exciting band lineup" Satterly said. "We have our best band lineup ever for this year’s festival, with groups like the Atkinson Family, Off the Wall, and Cincinnati Creek. We will have our full band lineup to announce shortly."

The Boonville Fair will provide a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus for attendees. Other vendors will be available as well, and many of the bands will have CD’s for sale. There are also indoor facilities for the performances in the event of rain. Camping will be available for a fee. Detailed information and ticket purchase forms will be available soon on the Association website at www.mvbga.com

The Association will be holding an "Indoor Bluegrass Festival" on Friday,April 13 at the Capitol Theatre in Rome as a fundraiser for the 2012 Festival. Bands expected to perform at the fundraiser include the Atkinson Family, Lake Effect Bluegrass, Off the Wall, and Diamond Someday.
