A security officer at the Central New York Psychiatric Center is accused of sexually abusing a young child in Rome last spring.
Steven J. Minsaas, 33, of 1004 Batavia Ave., abused a child less than 14-years-old on at least three occasions in May and June 2011, according to the county Child Advocacy Center.
The victim recently came forward to an adult, officials said, and Minsaas was taken into custody on Tuesday. Officials with the state Office of Mental Health said Minsaas has been suspended without pay from his job as a safety and security officer. He has worked for the OMH since 2001, officials said.
Minsaas is charged with three counts each of second-degree sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, authorities stated. He was arraigned before City Court Judge Daniel C. Wilson, and his case was adjourned to April 11.
Minsaas was released after posting a $4,500 bond, according to court records.
The victim has been offered counseling through the CAC.
