James T. Dunham, Sr., 72, of Rome, passed away on January 29, 2012. He was born in Rome, the son of Terence J. and Anna Marie King Dunham, Sr. Jim received his education in Rome and was a graduate of RFA class of 1957. He proudly served in the U.S.A.F. for four years, spending most of this time at Maxwell A.F.B. in Montgomery, AL during the racial unrest. On June 20, 1964, he married Karen Bowman of Utica at Sacred Heart Church.
Jim retired as a Lieutenant from the Rome Fire Department after 30 years of service. For 17 of those years, he was the Secretary for the Fire Fighters Union. In his early years, Jim enjoyed scuba diving, bowling, hunting and golfing. As an avid NASCAR and Buffalo Bills fan, Sunday afternoon was his favorite time to watch the action on TV. He was a member of the Rome American Legion, F.F. Benevolent and a former member of the golfing leagues in the area.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Karen; two daughters, Heather Dunham and Tim Clark of Boonville, and Shannon Fox of Rome; son, James T. Dunham, Jr., of Rome; sister, Diane M. Dunham of Rome; brother, Daniel R. Dunham, of SC; and former son-in-law, Scott Fox. Also surviving are three grandchildren, "Poppa’s" loves, Nathan and Jenna Fox, and Hilary Dunham; along with his extended family, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was predeceased by his brother, Terence, Jr. and special cousin, Mike King.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
