HP wrestlers pin down crown

The Holland Patent wrestling team secured the Tri-Valley League championship with a commanding 52-30 victory over visiting Camden on Wednesday night.

The Golden Knights, who improved to 5-0 in the TVL and 19-0 overall, scored seven wins by pin: Alex Herringshaw, 106 pounds; Josh Evans, 132; Tyler Mytych, 160; Matt Grogan, 184; Brandon Lake, 195; Ryan Crego, 220, and Josh Langley, 285.

Matt Herringshaw, 138, won by forfeit and Taylor Short, 170, added a majority decision win for the hosts.

Camden moved to 14-10 overall.

Scoring pins for the Blue Devils were Brett Finch, 113; Garrett Mitchell, 120; Cody Sullivan, 145; Tom Confer, 152, and Dennis Hilts, 99. Natalio McCormick, 126; had a forfeit victory.

Both the Golden Knights and the Blue Devils will participate in the Central New York Tournament held at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School on Saturday.

Red Devils edge Whitesboro

In other wrestling action, VVS grappled to a 39-30 home victory over Whitesboro to improve to 10-6 overall.

The Red Devils got pins from Nate Walts, 170; Brian Ervin, 285; Simon Breckenridge, 145, and Kasey Proper, 120.

Jason Colon, 132, scored a win by technical fall, while winning decisions for the Red Devils were Carter Kimball, 220, Gage Patry, 152, and Eddie Bently, 160.
