NYSSD once again will not have boys and girls basketball teams

The New York State School for the Deaf will once again not have boys and girls basketball teams this season, according to athletic director Dennis Ryan.

Ryan, who has served as the head coach for the boys basketball team in the past, said he had "only had a couple boys sign up," so they were unable to fill a varsity roster. Ryan said that the boys who did sign up will compete in the teen league at the Rome Family YMCA.

Ryan said that the girls who signed up will participate with some of their local students on a combined team in the North County Athletic Conference-a local league.

NYSSD also did not field boys and girls basketball teams last season.

During the 2009-10 season, the NYSSD boys team reached the NCAC championship game, losing to New Life Christian School.
