@Body.10. no-hyphen:Thomas A. Clifford, Sr., 60, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Rome Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born on April 28, 1951, in Rome, the son of Leon A. and Mary Schneck Clifford. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1969, and Mitchell College, Class of 1972.
He was an appraiser for Clifford Appraisals for several years.
Tom was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rome. Tom was very active in Rome sports, especially coaching American Legion and Rome Federal Little League Baseball as well as a former goalie coach for the Rome Free Academy Varsity Soccer Team. He also looked forward to being an escort for Drums Along the Mohawk every summer.
Tom loved golf. He was a former Rome City Champion and a Father/Son Champion at Teugega Country Club with his Dad. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, campfires, cooking, eating, and all collegiate and high school sports, especially Saturday afternoon football.
Surviving besides his mother, Mary, of Rome; are two sons, Thomas Clifford, Jr., and Scott Clifford, both of Rome; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Phyllis Clifford, of Rome; a grandson, Jacob Clifford; and a special friend and companion, Cathryn Barns, of Westmoreland.
Tom’s family wishes to convey their sincere thanks to Dr. Jonathan Wright from the ROC Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for the kindness and compassion shown to him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Family and friends are invited and may call on Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
