Rome area residents may notice a change in aircraft noise Thursday night due to the Air Force performing training operations.
Three C-17 transport aircraft from McGuire Air Force Base, Lakehurst, N.J., will be performing operations over and around Griffiss International Airport from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, according to county Aviation Commissioner W. Vernon Gray III. Griffiss is attractive to the military for such flights because of its uncongested airspace and long runway.
These training exercises are normally conducted at Griffiss twice a year, Gray said.
