Not even jail bars could prevent a 30-year-old Rome man, already accused of harassing his ex-girlfriend, from making phone calls to her from the county correctional facility in Whitestown.
Robert F. Pearson Jr., of 600 William St., appeared twice this week before City Court Judge Daniel C. Wilson on two separate cases of second-degree contempt and one count of seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance. His cases have been adjourned to Jan. 11.
Police said at 8 a.m. Dec. 27, Pearson went to his ex-companion’s residence despite being court-ordered to stay away due to a prior domestic dispute. The victim told police that Pearson was visiting to help with their children, but she told him to leave after he became irate.
The victim called the police, and Pearson was arrested later at 10:12 p.m. Sunday. Found with a baggy of cocaine, police said Pearson was arraigned in City Court on Monday morning and sent to county jail. Once he was locked up, police said Pearson used a telephone at the jail to call his ex-companion’s phone more than 20 times throughout the day. The victim told authorities that she received several calls from an unknown number, then discovered that number went to the jail when she tried to call back.
After he was freed on Monday, police said Pearson went to see ex-girlfriend at work at 4 p.m., despite the order of protection. Pearson was arrested again, and was arraigned a second time before Judge Wilson on Tuesday. Pearson was released on his own recognizance.
Charges from the original domestic dispute in September are still ongoing, and Pearson is also scheduled to appear on them in City Court on Jan. 11.
