COOPERSTOWN — The 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Weekend will include a parade for the first time.
The schedule for July 23-26 will include a Parade of Legends along Main Street on Saturday, July 24 at 6 p.m.
The new lineup is designed to create more fan interaction within the three-day celebration of baseball’s history and will compliment Hall of Fame induction ceremony on July 25.
Past and present Hall of Fame members are expected to will participate in the parade, which will originate on upper Main Street and conclude at the front steps of the Museum for a Red Carpet Arrival Ceremony.
Other changes to Hall of Fame weekend will feature new starting times for three fan participation events. Play Ball with Ozzie Smith, an annual fundraiser for the Museum’s education programs, moves to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 23 at Doubleday Field. Trivia-based game show with several Hall of Fame members Connecting Generation moves to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 24 at the Clark Sports Center.
The annual New York-Penn League Game, featuring the Tri-City ValleyCats and the Oneonta Tigers is set for 1 p.m. on July 24 at Doubleday Field.
Hall of Fame Weekend will feature the return of the Hall of Fame Roundtable, which is a live discussion with the new inductees on Monday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center.
Additional activities for the weekend include special Museum hours throughout the weekend, the installation of the Hall of Fame plaques on Sunday evening in the Museum at approximately 7 p.m.
The 2010 Hall of Fame Induction class will include former Royals and Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog and longtime umpire Doug Harvey, who were elected by the Veterans Committee on Dec. 7. They will be joined by any electees emerging from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America election, with the results to be announced on Jan. 6.
