Rome Memorial Hospital will receive $250,000 in federal funds for an electronic records and information system.
Th funding will help streamline the interactions between different hospital departments, labs and pharmacies, for more efficient care and at a reduced cost.
Rep. Michael Arcuri (D-24) announced the grant. He said the system will lower healthcare costs by reducing the risk of medical errors and the likelihood of duplicative or unnecessary testing.
"Rome Memorial Hospital is making great strides to modernize and update their electronic medical records and information systems," Arcuri said. "These upgrades are imperative to allowing Rome Hospital to continue to offer quality care while reducing costs. I look forward to continuing my work with Rome Memorial Hospital as they progress with this critical project in the future."
"I would like to thank Congressman Arcuri for his continued support of Rome Memorial Hospital," said Hospital President and CEO Darlene A. Burns. "These dollars will support our new Hospital Information and Clinical System -- a $7 million investment that comes with the promise of increased patient safety, efficiency and quality for those we serve in Rome and surrounding communities."
The funding is included in the 2010 Omnibus Appropriations Act, which passed the House of Representatives Thursday by a vote of 221-202 and passed the Senate on Saturday. The bill will now proceed to the president for his final signature.
