Valentine basketball sign-ups this week
The William A. Valentine Girls Basketball League will be holding sign-ups for students in grades 7-12 on Wednesday and Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. in the lobby of Strough Middle School on Laurel Street.
Late sign-ups will be on Sunday from noon until 1 p.m. at Rome Free Academy. All girls will be placed on a team but tryouts will be held on the same day as late sign-ups for all girls from 1 until 3 o’clock at the RFA main gymnasium.
The registration fee is $15 per child and a parent or guardian must be present to register.
Teugega club pro earns annual award
Teugega Country Club golf professional Steve Nacewicz has been named the winner of the 2009 Central New York PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award.
The PGA selection board reviews the overall performance at the facility, level of service to the Section, community involvement, leadership ability, image and ability to inspire fellow professionals and promotion of golf in determining the honoree. The CNY PGA consists of 180 eligible PGA members.
In addition to Nacewicz’s achievement, he will also be honored with the 2009 Horton Smith award. This honor is given to the professional who demonstrates leadership in education, mentoring fellow PGA Professionals in regards to education, and exhibits the character and integrity standards set by the PGA of America.
The CNY PGA will present these honors to Nacewicz on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Shenendoah Clubhouse at Turning Stone Resort and Casino.
