WHITESTOWN — Sumax Cycle Products is receiving the first P2 Achievement Award Wednesday from the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute.
The motorcycle parts company, located at 122 Clear Road in the business park that adjoins the former county airport, is being honored for its efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce hazardous materials in its production processes and for its pollution prevention partnership with the Mohawk Valley Applied Technology Corp.
Sumax specializes in powder coating, composite glass fenders and engine parts like spark plug wires and battery cables. The company was founded by Kirk Van Scoten and his wife Linda 26 years ago.
The institute is housed at Rochester Institute of Technology. Its objective is to help New York state businesses be more sustainable by applying cleaner production and product stewardship practices.
