Endangerment charge filed

Accused of not treating his infant son’s skin condition, a 21-year-old father got a dose of judicial medicine on Thursday.

Bail of $1,500 was not immediately met for David W. Smith, 21, of 223 Henry St., when he appeared before City Court Judge Daniel C. Wilson on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child. His case was adjourned to July 8.

Police said in June, Smith failed to apply a doctor-prescribed skin cream to his 3-month-old son. Police said the boy’s skin condition grew worse over the course of a week, causing cracks and bleeding. In a statement to police, Smith said the cream had run out, and he did not take the baby to the doctor to get more.
