Rome Aces squad bobbles early lead in setback

The Rome Aces 16U baseball team jumped out to an early five-run lead after the first inning but couldn’t hold on to it as they suffered a 13-11 setback to the Central New York Pioneers on Tuesday.

Alex Rudiak batted 3-for-4 with a run batted in for the Aces, while Austin Kahler and Derek Murphy each had two hits. Murphy also had a double and a triple with two RBIs, as Kahler scored a run and stole a base.

Josh Mazzaferro also had hit and scored three runs with two RBIs.

Rudiak received the losing pitching decision while relieving for Aces starter Andrew Gorcynski. Gorcynski pitched three innings and allowed four hits, and recorded four strikeouts with five walks, as Rudiak allowed five hits after one and 2/3 innings.

Westmoreland downs Rome

The Westmoreland Babe Ruth baseball team captured a 8-2 victory over visiting Rome on Tuesday.

Andrew Murphy led Westmoreland while batting 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, as Tyler Wendell, Zach Hibbard, Cody Mathis and Brandon Murphy each contributed with a hit.

Cody Mathis received the winning pitching decision after going five innings while striking out ten batters and giving up one hit.

Westmoreland improved their record to 3-2 overall following the win.
