Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency has temporarily laid off more workers.
To save just under $20,000 in salaries for a month, the agency temporarily laid off three administrative staff members. On May 7, the agency laid off Deputy Director Rick Weltz, administrative assistant Barbara Brosemer, and part-time planning associate Patrick Corbett.
The agency laid off 13 people from its weatherization program for a month this spring while it waited for its annual program contract funds to be released by the state. The latest layoffs are also due to funding delays, according to Executive Director Amy Turner.
"I’m looking to get these three positions back in about a week" — on June 4, she said. She noted that the agency has maintained the three employees’ benefits.
"We had a cash flow problem, which is improving," said Turner. The anti-poverty agency has had delays in funding for several programs. When program funds are delayed, so are the related administrative funds.
