Carmela DeSimone, 94, of 800 W. Chestnut St. passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the Bethany Gardens with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 6, 1915 in Rome, a daughter of Vito and Caroline Alfi Sparace. On November 26, 1936, in St. John the Baptist Church, she married Michael DeSimone who passed away on June 22, 1978. She was a graduate of RFA.
Carmela is survived by her beloved family, her daughters and spouses, Carmel Herrin of Rome, Carol and David Hayes of Rome and Judy and Gary Capoccia of Rome; her sons and spouses, Julius and Cecelia DeSimone, Sr. of Rome and Anthony and Carol DeSimone of London, England; her cherished grandchildren, 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Rachael and Fred Stewart of Riverside, CA; a brother and sister-in-law, Vito and Mary Sparace of Rome; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Michael DeSimone; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and David Holdbrook; a granddaughter, Tara Michelle DeSimone; sisters, Rose Marcello, Louise Schiro, Caroline Franco, Isabelle Viti and Nicholena Kranbuhl; and a brother, Salvatore Sparace.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Bethany Gardens.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 from the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. and at 11:00 at St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
