The Rome Free Academy junior varsity baseball team came up with a 10-6 win over Central Square on Friday for their third win in a row and five of their last six games.
Ed Zakrewski hit a three-run home run for the Black Knights, while Nick Falcone had two hits and three RBIs, as Josh Mazzaferro and Josh Jones each had two hits, including a double.
Zakrewski was also the winning pitcher while giving up one earned run on three hits in 3 1-3 innings of relief for Rome starter Paul Trela.
RFA’s record goes to 7-6 following the win.
RFA falls to Corcoran
The RFA girls junior varsity lacrosse squad suffered a 21-7 loss to Corcoran.
Rebecca Kieffer had two goals and two assists, while Jessica Edwards also had two goals with one assist, and Meghan McCormick tallied two goals. Mariah Puchyr also had one goal and two assists.
Goal keeper Kelsi Sanzone had eight saves in the net for Rome.
RFA crushes Corcoran
In other lacrosse action, the RFA girls modified team picked up a 12-5 triumphant over Corcoran.
Kayli Smith led the way with five goals, while Olga Russell had three goals and an assist.
Marisa Castro tallied two goals, as Bryn Bielby and Mickey Smith each had a goal with Bielby getting an assist as well.
Goalie Jenna Fox had ten saves in the net for Rome as the Lady Knights’ record moves to 2-3-2.
Rome sweeps JFK
The Rome modified Black baseball team completed a two-game sweep over John F. Kennedy Middle School during a doubleheader with Rome winning 4-0 and 6-5 in both games.
Zack Wade pitched a complete game for the Black in the first game while allowing four hits and fanning five batters in five innings.
Spencer Kahler had a two-run home run to lead the Black while Kenneth Adams had a RBI single.
In the second game, Matt Silver received the pitching win after 3 2-3 innings while allowing three hits, as Kahler received the save.
Wade had singled and Kyle Baker had two RBIs, as the Black’s record jumps to 8-2.
