Mallory Ingalls struck out 12 and helped her own by hitting the game-winning home run to propel the Oriskany softball team to a 11-10 victory over host Old Forge on Monday for the Lady Redskins’ 12th straight win without a loss.
Ingalls led off the eighth inning with the go-ahead home run to put Oriskany on top while recording the pitching win at the bottom of the inning to increase her season record to 8-0 overall. Ingalls batted 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double and four runs batted in.
Alyssa Balfe and Brittany Decker were both 3-for-5 with two RBIs each, and Kile Washnis was 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Old Forge’s Taylor White took the pitching loss while recording 11 strikeouts and batting 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Adirondack downs Remsen
The Adirondack softball team captured a 19-3 win over Remsen for the Lady Wildcats’ 10th win of the season.
Adirondack fell behind by three runs after four innings to the Rams, but rallied to scored 19 runs in the final three frames to earn the win.
Elise Wieczerzak led the Lady Wildcats offense with three hits, including a double, a triple and two RBIs. Suzanne Jokajtys and Amy Woodworth each had two hits and two RBIs, while Kaelana Backer also had two hits.
Kelsey O’Connor pitched five innings on the mound and allowed one earned run on three hits while fanning six batters to record her first varsity pitching win.
Adirondack increases to 10-4 overall.
VVS routs Holland Patent
In other softball action, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill scored 13 runs in the second inning en route to a 24-11 triumph over Holland Patent.
Stephanie Siriano received the pitching win for VVS and also recording a triple on offense, while fellow Lady Red Devil Megan Reed hit a home run.
Holland Patent’s Randi Strumpfler got the loss while hitting a triple as well. Korey Bunal batted 4-for-4 with a double and Lauren Marleau also hit a double.
Westmoreland falls in eighth
In more softball action, Westmoreland was up by three runs in the third but ended up dropping a 9-7 decision to visiting New York Mills in an eight-inning game.
With one out in the eighth, New York Mills’ Brittany Englert reached on a single and later scored on a wild pitch to later win the match.
Jennifer Munn led the Lady Bulldogs’ offense with three hits including two doubles and a RBI, as Julianna Harrison had two hits and two RBIs. Calla Rogers scored three runs and Ciara Nolan also had a RBI.
Harrison also received the pitching loss on the mound.
New Hartford downs Camden
The Camden softball squad suffered a 4-2 setback to host New Hartford in a Tri-Valley League matchup for its sixth loss of the season.
Ashley Roser had two hits for Camden including a double while Ashley Coleman and Ariel Dean each hit a double as well.
Katie Semo picked up the pitching loss after six innings and recording five strikeouts with no walks as Camden’s record goes to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in TVL competition.
HP slips past VVS
The Holland Patent boys tennis team captured a 4-3 decision over VVS for its fifth win of the season.
Aaron Rizzuto and Dalton DeVine had singles wins for Holland Patent, while AJ Rogowski and Paul Aurigema won for VVS.
The duo of Pete Zampano and Cory Wycysi came away with a doubles win for the Golden Knights, while Shane Sullivan and Josh Page won one for VVS.
Holland Patent’s record moves to 5-7 and VVS drops to 3-8.
RFA bounced by Auburn
In other boys tennis action, Rome Free Academy suffered a 4-3 decision to visiting Auburn.
Peter Monahan and Kevin Cieslewitz teamed up for a double win for RFA, while Collen Roller and Jacob Forester teamed for the second double win.
Amit Goel captured the only singles win for Rome.
Camden swept in doubleheader
The Camden boys tennis squad hosted a doubleheader matchup but and was swept in both matches by the score of 7-0.
The Blue Devils’ record falls to 1-9 overall.
HP falls to VVS
The VVS girls golf team completed a 247-301 victory over Holland Patent at the Oneida Community Golf Club for their sixth win of the season.
Kelly Hoole and Hayleigh Gowans tied with a score of 60 on the par 36 course for VVS, while Amanda Snizek shot a 63 and Micaela Shay scored a 64.
Emily Oliver and Lindsay Shepard tied for Holland Patent with a 73 score, as Amanda Kahler shot a 77 and Paige Pfendler shot a 78.
Westmoreland downed by Hamilton
In other golfing action, the Westmoreland boys team fell to a 180-194 decision to Hamilton at Seven Oaks.
Taylor Brockway led the was for Westmoreland with a score of 37 on the par 36 course, while David Bowers scored a 50.
Kevin Eisnor shot a 53 and Kelley Citrin had a score of 54.
Westmoreland drops their overall record to 8-3 overall.
OT loss for Rome girls
The RFA girls lacrosse team suffered a 9-8 loss to host Central Square for their eighth season loss.
Erin Thomas led RFA with five goals and an assist, as Abby DePaul, Kayla Smith and Ariana Smith each tallied one goal as well. DePaul also contributed with an assist as well as Erica Stapleton.
Katie Magee had six goals for 3-10 overall Central Square.
RFA goal keeper Danielle Famolaro had four saves in the net, as Alex Towne had seven saves in the net in relief.
Rome’s record falls to 5-8 overall with the loss.
