HERKIMER — Herkimer County Community College is accepting registrations for a non-credit course, Protecting Yourself Against Identity Theft.
It will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and again from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The fee is $59 per session. Pre-registration is required by calling 866-0300, ext. 8251, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The course explains how to protect personal identities and how to lower the odds of becoming an identity theft victim. Participants learn what identity theft is and how ID thieves obtain personal information. The workshop provides tips to help you minimize the risk of ID theft both online and offline. The workshop discusses scams being used by ID thieves such as phishing, pharming and vishing. In addition, it helps identify key warning signs that indicate someone may already be a victim of ID theft, and it offers resources for getting help if someone’s identity has been compromised.
The instructors are Michelle Tuttle, president of $mart Business Solutions, New Hartford, and James Lombardo, chief operating manager of AmeriCU Services LLC, a licensed investment consultant.
